This is a small collection of demos recorded between 2006 and 2015 by Andrew R. Hill, singer and guitarist with the Edinburgh band Dora Maar (I know, it’s Leith really, but not everyone’s heard of Leith so it’s just easier to say Edinburgh, ok? Sheesh…) Andrew provides an explanation of all 6 tracks, giving an insight to the songwriting process and how his environment directly affected each song, whether it be in a good or bad way. Despite his admitted grumpiness and dislike of humid weather, this is a relaxing release, something you can loose yourself in on a warm summer’s day. BUt as we live in Scotland, you can also enjoy it the other 364 days of the year too.
The idea of releasing the demos now is to help fund the recording and release of Dora Maar’s next ep. I’m one of the lucky people who managed to pick up a copy of their first ep, released on limited edition cassette that came out in December 2013, and was also fortunate enough (ok, I stalked them, pestering them to play a gig for me) to see them play their first and so far only gig outside of Edinburgh and their 3rd gig in total last year. They’ve been quiet since then, taking stock and planning their next step. I’m a massive fan, I’ve championed them whenever and wherever I can, so I would encourage all music fans to buy this, not just because it’s a good collection of tracks on it’s own, but because the world also needs more Dora Maar to make it a better place.
